The Best TV I Streamed in 2025

I’ve reviewed the best movies (horror, old, and new) I watched in 2025, so now it is time for television. I didn’t do a roundup of the TV shows I watched last year (because I watch more movies than TV), so this post includes shows I’ve watched over the past two years.

Tier 1: Television Masterpieces

The Rehearsal (season 2)
Nathan Fielder continues to surprise and impress me. No one else has even thought of attempting something this ambitious on television before. Best TV I Streamed in 2022

With the advent of streaming services, the world has been flooded with television series—much too many for any one person to watch. These shows are mostly good but rarely great. I’ve come to realize why television tends toward mediocrity. Most people only half-watch tv in the background while doing other things like browsing social media on a second screen. They don’t have the self-discipline to not look at their phone while watching tv, so tv shows cannot be too intellectually challenging. That’s why most tv shows drag on and are repetitive—so people can still understand what’s going on while scrolling Instagram. But if I’m going to watch something, I devote my full attention, which is the way cinema is meant to be seen. The other issue with television is series being canceled prematurely and never getting closure. It is for these reasons, among others, that I prefer movies to tv series. Though there were a few series worth watching this year.

“Axe Cop” by Malachai and Ethan Nicolle

In my final “Best of 2019” post, I’ll be listing my favorite television shows, comic books, video games, and music albums of the year. I haven’t been watching as much television as I used to, (I simply don’t have the time) focusing more on movies, documentaries, and books (and of course, my own writing). There are several 2019 shows I’d still like to watch but haven’t gotten around to yet, such as The Mandalorian and the new Twilight Zone reboot (though I did watch a lot of the original series this past year, and most of the episodes hold up extraordinarily well).
