The Best TV I Streamed in 2025

I’ve reviewed the best movies (horror, old, and new) I watched in 2025, so now it is time for television. I didn’t do a roundup of the TV shows I watched last year (because I watch more movies than TV), so this post includes shows I’ve watched over the past two years.

Tier 1: Television Masterpieces

The Rehearsal (season 2)
Nathan Fielder continues to surprise and impress me. No one else has even thought of attempting something this ambitious on television before. Nathan spent two years learning how to fly a 737 airplane for a comedy show. Except it’s not really a comedy show, it’s more like a mass psychological experiment. Like Dostoevsky, Fielder uses his art form (reality TV and comedy) to unveil great truths about human nature and expose societal problems.

Ranking the Horror Movies I Watched in 2025

With Halloween approaching, I have compiled a list of all the horror movies I watched this past year, old and new, good and bad, and everything in between. They are sorted into tiers based on quality and listed alphabetically within each tier. As streaming rights are always changing, check JustWatch.com to see where the films may currently be available to watch.

Tier 1: Cinematic Masterpieces

Oddity (2024) directed by Damian Mc Carthy
Oddity is about twin women, one of whom was murdered, and the other is a psychic medium who owns an antique shop that sells occult oddities. She comes to suspect that her sister was killed by someone other than the man who was arrested, so she goes to the house where the murder took place (which is possibly haunted), bringing some occult items from her shop to get revenge. Trying to explain the premise doesn’t do the film justice. It is so well done, like a horror Pulp Fiction because of the way the story is told nonlinearly via flashbacks. Rather than relying on jump scares and gore (though there is some of each), the film instead uses dread, suspense, and tension to expertly build to those moments of horror.

Best of 2020: Video Games, Comics, Music, and More

A new form of storytelling medium I got into this year was fictionalized audio drama podcasts. I prefer them to fiction audiobooks because they have a full cast of actors to voice each character in the story. Plus the scripts are written specifically for audio (as opposed to most novels), so the stories are more dialogue-driven and therefore more dynamic and easier to follow while listening. Though, as with television, I prefer self-contained miniseries audio dramas with an ending, rather than series that go on for years.

Top 10 Movies (At Least 10 Years Old) I Saw in 2019

movies-2019

With 2019 winding down, it’s time for my fourth annual list of the ten best films (at least ten years old) that I watched this past year. As I’ve said before, these lists are always kind of random and arbitrary, based on the movies I happen to choose to watch (or re-watch) that year. I tend to prefer watching something I’ve never seen before over re-watching, though as you’ll see, there were a couple of those this year. Continue reading
